Trace Carbon Solutions LLC’s wholly owned subsidiary Evergreen Sequestration Hub LLC submitted a Class VI permit application to the Louisiana Department of Energy and Natural Resources for two CO2 injection wells in the hub’s first phase of development.
Trace is applying to be allowed to permanently sequester CO2 in underground geological formations on approximately 20,000 acres in the Beauregard and Calcasieu parishes, Louisiana, the company said in a March 11 press release.
“This Class VI CO2 injection permit submission is the culmination of over 18 months of rigorous project planning and subsurface analysis and is a critical step in the development of this project,” Trace CEO Josh Weber said. “We’re excited to progress the development of the Evergreen Hub given its high-quality geology, large and consolidated acreage position and proximity to industrial emissions corridors.
The permit application was submitted on Feb. 28. If approved, the first two CO2 injections wells will be located on lands managed by the Molpus Woodlands Group. The minimal aboveground layout will allow the surface acreage to continue as a sustainably managed working forest.
Total CO2 storage capacity for the Evergreen Hub is approximately 250 MMmt and will be able to help sequester over 70 million metric tons per year of emissions within 50 miles of the hub.
