Nina Rach has worked in the upstream industry for more than 25 years. She’s been a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists since 1982 and has represented AAPG in developing technical programs for the Offshore Technology Conferences since 1994, serving as program chair for the OTC.02 conference. She’s also a member of the Society of Petrolum Engineers and a member of the Texas State Bar Asociation.
She earned a BS from the College of Engineering at Cornell University, an MS from The Graduate School at Duke University, and a JD at University of Houston Law Center.
Nina joined Hart Energy Publishing in August 2009. Prior to joining the E&P Magazine staff, she spent six years as drilling editor for Oil & Gas Journal, covering drilling and production technology, drilling markets, and worldwide activities. Prior to that, she worked in R&D at Landmark Graphics, held engineering positions at Exxon and Fugro-McClelland Engineering, and was an exploration geophysicist with Amoco Production and Tenneco Oil.
She has a lot of hands-on industry experience, including work in the East African Rift lakes aboard the R/V Nyanja, acquiring multichannel marine seismic data. She’s also worked in the Gulf of Mexico and offshore California and Brazil, supervising marine geotechnical drill crews and working on VSP surveys.
Her blog photo was taken in western Wyoming, not far from the Pinedale Anticline, near the end of a fly-fishing afternoon. Unfortunately, the large trout she was holding was cropped out.
